Follow latest updates at twitter.com and www.facebook.com A ferocious tsunami spawned by one of the largest earthquakes on record slammed Japan's eastern coast on Friday, killing hundreds of people as it swept away ships, cars and homes while widespread fires burned out of control. Police said 200 to 300 bodies were found in the northeastern coastal city of Sendai, the city in Miyagi prefecture, or state, closest to the epicentre. Journey to Japan
Konnichiwa guys ^_^ As promised- I filmed lots of footage from my trip to Japan for you guys. So come with me and follow me on my journey to Japan ^_^. On 4th December; I woke up to see a post-it note on my mirror. It was a treasure trail prepared by Tim. I followed all of the clues and the last clue was an itinerary & Yen note. I'M GOING TO JAPAN FOR MY BIRTHDAY!! Although I only got to spend 4 full days in Japan- we managed to do/see countless beautiful sightings. Japan is breathtaking. We didn't go to Tokyo because I wanted to experience the authentic and peaceful side of Japan (like how i imagine it in my head). I will definitely visit Tokyo in the future but I wanted to see Osaka/Kyoto first. I wanted to see Zen gardens, temples and geishas. Everything was even more beautiful than I imagined. It was a wonderful journey and we managed to visit some of the greatest temples on earth and eat delicious japanese food. People were very warm and welcoming. I will definitely visit Japan again and I would recommend anybody to visit the country once in their life time. They have a beautiful culture. Big thank you to my lovely boyfriend Tim for being so sweet and romantic. It was a wonderful surprise and I'll never forget our amazing trip together in Japan. I hope you guys enjoy this video. Japan wants missile shield against N.Korean rockets
North Korea has announced it will launch a rocket next month, which will put a satellite into orbit. But the US and its allies see the plans as counter to international diplomatic efforts to deal with the reclusive state's nuclear programme - and are worried the technology could be used to develop long range missiles in the future. It could also potentially violate UN Security Council resolutions, and threatens last month's deal between North Korea and the Washington. Under this, Pyonyang was to freeze its uranium weapons program and its long-range missile activities - in return for American food aid. Japan's has responded by deploying its own missile defense system to shoot down any rocket threatening its territory. Japan marks one year since a devastating earthquake and tsunami killed over nineteen thousand people, devastating an entire nation. Japan Marks Anniversary of Fukushima Nuclear Accident
A year later, decontamination and construction crews are still working to clean up the nuclear disaster at Japan's Fukushima Dai-ichi Power plant. Experts expect the cleanup will take decades and cost tens of billions of dollars. The earthquake and resulting tsunami that hit Japan 's east coast last March 11th was one of the biggest the world has ever recorded, killing nearly 16000 people, injuring 6000 and causing another 3000 to go missing. But the natural disaster was eclipsed by news of the nuclear one, which was the worst since the Chernobyl meltdown in 1986. Japan's struggles in dealing with Fukushima captivated the world's attention for weeks, as a small group of men in radiation suits fought to cool the plant's damaged and burning reactors. 200000 area residents were evacuated. Polling shows public opinion around nuclear power also remains damaged, with the possible impact of natural disasters on plants and the power to contain damage still in question. Eleven US power companies are currently seeking license extensions for 15 nuclear power plants across America built decades ago. In the wake of Fukushima, the future of old plants, and the viability of new ones, hangs in the balance.

Too much packaging in Japan
This is just one isolated example, but I could give you many more. I think people that live/have lived in Japan can back me up in the comments section - what is an example of packaging overkill you've experienced in Japan? Some times it can be quite nice, as when you're buying a gift for someone and they wrap it up for you and give you a bag you can give it to that person in, but most times it just seems really wasteful. How about where you're from - does this happen? The ironic followup is that in many other ways Japan really tries hard to be eco-friendly. But they just can't give up their love of over-packaging. Coast Guard sinks Japanese ghost ship adrift since tsunami
A US Coast Guard cutter poured cannon fire into a Japanese ghost ship that had been drifting since the last year's tsunami, sinking the vessel in the Gulf of Alaska and eliminating the hazard it posed to shipping and the coastline. The cutter's guns tore holes in the 164-foot Ryou-Un Maru on Thursday, ending its long, lonely journey across the Pacific that began when the deadly tsunami set it floating more than a year ago. The crew pummeled the ghost ship with high explosive ammunition, and the derelict Ryou-Un Maru soon burst into flames, and began taking on water, officials said. A huge column of smoke could be seen over the gulf as a Coast Guard C-130 cargo plane, sent to observe the sinking, dropped a buoy to monitor for any possible pollution. The Coast Guard warned mariners to stay away, and aviation authorities did the same for pilots. In about four hours, the ship vanished into the water, said Chief Petty Officer Kip Wadlow in Juneau. It sank into waters more than 6000 feet deep, about 180 miles west of the southeast Alaska coast, the Coast Guard said. Officials decided to sink the ship rather than risk the chance of it running aground or endangering other vessels in the busy shipping lanes between North America and Asia. The ship had no lights or communications system, and its tank was able to carry more than 2000 gallons of diesel fuel. Officials, however, didn't know how much fuel, if any, was aboard.
