A "Quodlibet" is a piece structured on multiple songs and developed in counterpoint. This Quodlibet is based on two original German folk song: 1. That is, they then sang popular songs partly of comic and also partly of indecent content, all mixed together on the spur of the moment. ... This kind of improvised harmonizing they called a Quodlibet, and not only could laugh over it quite whole-heartedly themselves, but also aroused just as hearty and irresistible laughter in all who heard them." 2x theme & variatio by Aguado Dionisio. Dionisio Aguado was a Spanish classical guitarist and composer. Born in Madrid, he studied with Miguel Garcia. In 1825, Aguado visited Paris, where he met and became friends with and for a while lived with Fernando Sor. Sor's duo Les Deux Amis ("The Two Friends") commemorated the friendship: one part is marked "Sor" and the other "Aguado." Aguado's major work Escuela de Guitarra was a guitar tutor published in 1825. It is still reprinted today (Tecla editions). In the Escuela Aguado describes his use of fingernails on the right hand as well as his invention of a "tripodion": a device that held the guitar and thus minimized the damping effect of the player's body on the guitar's back and sides. Aguado's other works include Trois Rondos Brillants (Opus 2), Le Menuet Affandangado (Opus 15), Le Fandango Varie (Opus 16), as well as numerous waltzes, minuets, and other light pieces. Goldberg Variations is one of Bach's works I like the most. Just like on the piano, it's very didactic for those guitarrists who aim to work well with both hands. It was Adam Fulara who first realised such, and he is nowadays, indeed, the biggest specialist in the use of this technique with the composer's pieces. I'm still improving the 1st variation and, probably, only in a few years will I be able to execute it properly. I hope you enjoy the video, it was - up to now - the best I could do.

I thought that it may be of benefit for anyone who is learning the Goldberg Variations to listen to who is (probably) its foremost interpreter's seminal 1981 recording along with the score. I know such an exercise has helped me no end in the past. This is the first variation, I'll do the rest of the work, variation by variation until we get to all thirty! VARIATIO 1 A 1 CLAV. This sprightly variation contrasts markedly with the slow, contemplative mood of the theme. The rhythm in the right hand forces the emphasis on the second beat, giving rise to syncopation from bars 1 to 7. Hands cross at bar 13 from the upper register to the lower, bringing back this syncopation for another two bars. In the first two bars of the B part, the rhythm mirrors that of the beginning of the A part, but after this a different idea is introduced. Williams sees this as a sort of polonaise. The characteristic rhythm in the left hand is also found in Bach's Partita No. 3 for solo violin, in the A♭ major prelude from the first book of The Well-Tempered Clavier, and in the D minor prelude of the second book.
